Focused

By Pastor Keith
Early last Saturday morning my buddy Riley woke me up by frantically bouncing on the bed. If he could talk, other than his barking, whispering, and low tonal growls, I'm sure I would have been treated with something like, "wake up, wake up, wake up, your gonna miss it, Jessy is mowing the yard again"

However, since he can't speak English, and I don't speak very good "dog", I just took it that something was going on that I needed to take him outside to see...
Focused

Early last Saturday morning my buddy Riley woke me up by frantically bouncing on the bed. If he could talk, other than his barking, whispering, and low tonal growls, I'm sure I would have been treated with something like, "wake up, wake up, wake up, your gonna miss it, Jessy is mowing the yard again"

However, since he can't speak English, and I don't speak very good "dog", I just took it that something was going on that I needed to take him outside to see.  A few minutes later  we were out side watching Jessy on his riding lawn mower flying across 2+ acres of grass.  Around trees, power poles, and a small creek, he was leaving an almost perfectly matched set of lines in the beautiful green grass.

After he moved on to the next area of grass needing his attention, I began to wonder, "how was Jessy able to keep mowing such perfectly matched lines with all that stuff in the way?". Then it came to me, Jessy had "FOCUS". He had found a spot at the end of the row not yet mowed, and fixed his eyes on it, then no matter what was in his way, as long as he keep his eyes FOCUSED on that spot as he mowed, Jessy accomplished his goal!

How many times do we set out on a project, whether it is cleaning off the desk or workbench, rearranging the closet, starting our spring cleaning...or even trying to start a regiment of morning devotions with the Lord...whatever it might be, there always seems to be something that is messing with our FOCUS, right?

This morning in my time in the Word, by the way, I still have to FOCUS every morning so as not to get side tracked before I invest my time in the Word, prayer, and meditation on what God has for me to do, anyway, Colossians 2:2-4 in the Message translation was right on for this subject.

I want you woven into a tapestry of love, in touch with everything there is to know of God. Then you will have minds confident and at rest, focused on Christ, God's great mystery. All the richest treasures of wisdom and knowledge are embedded in that mystery and nowhere else. And we've been shown the mystery! I'm telling you this because I don't want anyone leading you off on some wild-goose chase, after other so-called mysteries, or "the Secret". (Colossians 2:2-4 MSG)

The key word in these verses is "FOCUSED". Paul knew that to have our minds full of confidence, to be at peace, to have all wisdom and understanding it all comes from the action of being FOCUSED on the right thing "the mystery". That is what it was called before Jesus became "The Christ", in our lives. Now it is not a mystery because we do have all of the above for-mentioned wisdom, understanding, peace and confidence available to us as we become so FOCUSED on Him, Christ who is in the Father and we are in Him.

I have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness - the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the saints. To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.  (Col 1:25-27 NIV)

So my point is today, keep your FOCUS on keeping The Main Thing...The Main Thing. What ever it is that you are facing today I challenge you don't let anything come between the finished project and where you are right now.  Keep your spirit FOCUSED on what you are hearing the Holy Spirit say to you. Keep you heart and head clean and filled with the Word and praise  on your lips. That FOCUS alone will help you to keep the lines of your "lawn mowing" perfect.

Remember this one powerful scripture of promise, Acts 17:28 NKJV. I've quoted it before and will quote it again because there is power in it for our everyday victory.

"for in Him we live and move and have our being."
