One night while I was working at Sam's Club Gas Station a few years back I had some whispers from the Spirit of the Lord, and the more I thought on them, the more truth I perceived in some very ordinary, yet provoking situations.
Now just so you will know, this was one on my first blogs when we started Touch Stones Network. I am reposting it along with some others since we have done a revision of this website, so here we go.
One of the things that makes my blogs me, is that I like to tell true to life stories, things that happen to me along with the truths that I am laying out from what I hear the Spirit of the Lord saying.
So first, you need to know a little more about me. For instance, that I have a part time secular job to help pay the bills, you know, we all have some, bills I mean, and God always seems to make a way to provide provision if we are obedient to His Word and His plan for our lives...Oops! that is another night's blog, Boy, it is really going to be good I'm telling Ya! Sorry, my mind is racing tonight, OK, back to my story.
So, I work for a Big Box Store with a Gas Station, as an Attendant out at the gas pumps. Outside, its hot in the summer, cold in the winter. I guess you first must understand. Here in Phoenix, AZ, we only have really three seasons, "REALLY HOT! - Not So Hot! - and Oh, it must be winter."
But, even now in November I was not really surprised to see folks still dressed in shorts, T-shirts, and flip flops who came by and get gas on their way to shop. However, being that I am outside under the canopy, and there is a constant breeze where we are, I wore a long sleeve shirt and carried a light weight jacket to work this evening.
As the day wore on it was so nice, and I didn't even notice the sun drop down behind the trees and then set against the White Tank Mountains off in the far west valley. But all of a sudden, I realized, my back was cold, my joints were aching, and a cold shiver went down my collar.
I was caught off guard, I needed protection from the cold, I had it, it was available, but I had not taken advantage of what was mine. Now I am paying the price, even though I did put my jacket on later I was already cold in my back and joints. The only way to remedy this in my body is to go get in the hot tube and soak for about 15 minutes and then go to bed, cuddle up under the blankets.... oh well you get the picture.
Now what does this have to do with anything spiritual? I know you were thinking that. Here's what I heard from the Spirit of the Lord tonight as I shivered even after I had put on my jacket.
How many times are Christians caught off guard and attacked at their weakest points because they started of the day without putting on the Armor of God? You see my back and knees are my weakest points in my body because of old production injuries, so when I don't protect them the cold and wind can sneak up on me and POW! Hits me unawares, and I suffer because of my unpreparedness. Many Christians today still have not become strong and mighty in the Lord because of not seeing the weaknesses in their spiritual lives. they go to church, and sing the songs, smile and nod at the Pastor, and like my long sleeve shirt, it is a weak first layer of protection, not much at all.
Guess what? That same thing can and often does happen to all of us, if we don't protect ourselves with the very thing that God set before us for our protection, His Spiritual Armour. I love how the Apostle Paul told the Ephesians,
"Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints" - Eph 6:10-19 NKJV
Do you see the correlation between these two? I my case tonight, the wind and cold were unseen elements sneaking up on me, they had the power to make me cold and uncomfortable and I could not do anything about it until I sought the protection that was available.
Just as in this scripture where Paul says in vs 12:
"For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places."
Our spiritual enemy is cold and calculated, unseen and devious. We don't stand a chance on our own. We have no protection of our own that can stand against this enemy who will, and does come at the most inopportune moments, like a "sneaky snake" or the cold and wind in my case. Attack! and if we have not started out our day without Putting on the whole armor of God, and without, "praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful!" we are going to be caught unawares, and we shall be defeated! To do this we must STAY IN HIS WORD also, don't just think it is prayer only. We must avail ourselves to our Fathers Words and Wisdom for us.
Hey, my beloved, (OK, I must admit, I really like some of the Apostle Paul's usage of words) Well that's all, this is a blog, not a book, and my joints are telling me, the hot tube is ready for us.
Hey friend, Stand Strong! wear the whole Armor of God, and we can use that which is defensive, and that which is offensive to protect us from the wiles of the enemy. For our heavenly Father, has provided for us a "jacket" to protect us from the cold and winds of this world.
See You next time,
